McDonald's is the world's largest chain of hamburger fast food restaurants, serving around 68 million customers daily in 119 countries across 36,535 outlets. Founded in the United States in 1940, the company began as a barbecue restaurant operated by Richard and Maurice McDonald.

While a global Brand, the vast majority of McDonald’s restaurants – more than 80% worldwide and nearly 90% in the U.S. – are owned and operated by approximately 5,000 independent, small- and mid-sized businessmen and women. The power of their franchisees, suppliers and employees working together toward a common goal is what makes McDonald’s the world’s leading quick-service restaurant brand.

Over the last nine fiscal years, McDonald’s revenue achieved its peaked in 2013 at 28.11 billion U.S. dollars. Since this peak, the revenue has decreased annually over the last two years, hitting 25.4 billion U.S. dollars in 2015, lower than the revenue of 2011.
