“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” This quote was said by William Arthur Ward who was awarded an honorary doctorate degree from Oklahoma City University for his professional work and literary contributions. Many people believe this to be true when it comes to the education of students that seem to not be achieving what is expected of them to achieve. He also make a very good point about teachers and when he says that mediocre teachers tell he is unfortunately correct when it comes to the United State’s modern day school system. A problem has arisen with communication between high school students and their teachers; communication is not being a priority in the US school system and that has to stop happening because communication is the foundation where the teacher will know where the students as a whole and as individuals stand with the material being taught.

To start off, the problem which is to be discussed is that teachers do not persist to engage their students in critical thinking, the subject that is being taught, and in conversation with the teacher which in turn can hurt them in college. According to, Sir Ken Robinson a speaker that challenges the way that education is being taught explains in his video Educating the Heart and Mind that education is where students should become engaged into school and with that it is supposed to bring meaning to a person’s life and show them what they are capable to do which in turn helps society as well. He also says that this is not being done in schools and have students being “half educated” and “willfully pulling away from it”.( Robinson) Most Students do not engage in the classroom and this is particularly the teachers fault because they see students as children they need to keep disciplining.
