Part a):

Feelings of being unappreciated or of being treated unfairly could change an employee’s attitude and therefore, might also affect his/her behavior towards management and the company. But a wise and proactive supervisor can take preventative measures to keep this from happening.

By conducting regular surveys, management can get a “feel” of employee attitudes. This lets the employees know that the company values their opinion. If the company uses this information to improve the workplace, the attitude and behavior of the employees will also improve.

In addition, it is important for employees to know that management is aware of their existence, recognizes them, remember their names and greets them. Managers who fail to greet employees or respond to greetings lead to a high degree of de-motivation, lack of trust, and disloyalty. It is very important that management sharpen their people skills.

Individuals need to be thanked for their hard work and be rewarded for their contributions. Managers who encourage employees to use initiative and set higher challenges for themselves achieve more positive results than those who cause employees to compete with each other. A personal accomplishment at the expense of others defeats teamwork and negatively affects productivity. Managers can win over employees’ loyalty and best input by treating them as “partners”, showing care, listening to them and sharing.
