1 Use of Structure in managing the ‘Change’

In evaluating the use of structure and systems in the implementation of Nissan’s strategy, we look at the fundamentals of change management using the six step model (Chris Mabey, 2008), this approach will provide an insight into the use of structures and systems to manage change in a large scale, as Gerry Johnson (Strategy Reader, pg 279) argues most of the success in strategy implementation rest with change management. This aspect was also identified by Carlos Ghosn himself as one of his two goals: Making changes and safeguarding identity.

The model above will be use to provide context and provide setting for analysis on the use of structure and systems to implement this particular change strategy.

From the above table, it may be concluded that the change initiative at Nissan had been carefully constructed and executed, most importantly Ghosn seem to have carefully employed a multidisciplinary approach in selecting the core strategy formulators.
