Part 3

4 most important things I have learned in this class:

Sustainability practices in transportation and the top 3 reasons for “Green” focus.

 Improve Customer Relations

 Improve Public Relations

 Reduce Fuel Consumption and Cost

Also, It is a motivation for change in businesses because it is a cost reducer and it promotes sustainability on a global market.

I also learned the population growth is a huge factor in the world and in the PNW area. I learned the nation’s population growth looks to be 400 Million by 2043. And there is a growth concern with the PNW growth and how cars and trucks will travel from Seattle to Portland conveniently over the I-5 bridge. Along with this growth population there is a chronic underfunding in the money we are investing in infrastructure. If we don’t invest more in infrastructure we will be impacted to stay as a leading nation.

I also took away the leanings on Total Cost of Ownership. TCO calculation designed to help people make more informed financial decisions. Rather than just looking at the purchase price of an object, TCO looks at the complete cost from purchase to disposal. It adds to the initial purchase price other costs expected to be incurred during the life of the product, such as service, repair, and insurance.

 INV Cost = (Avg Inv + SS) x unit price x ICC

 ADMIN Cost = # Orders x PO Cost

 TC = INV Cost + ADMIN Cost

 As Inventory Sits, Its Value Declines, Its Costs Increase

Finally, I had a lot of take aways from the speaker on the Yangtze River in China (I forgot his name). I found it fascinating how his business is ensuring that there is research being done to expand the ports and the logistics of getting the boats through the river and into the inland part of China. The population is so extraordinary there that the Yangtze drains one-fifth of China's land area and its river basin is home to one-third of China’s population.
