Real-Life Financial Data

From the textbook, financial statement is a formal record of the financial

activities and position of a business, person, or other entity, it takes an important role

in the business. Financial statement only shows past activities, however, people can

estimate future business operation through the data. Here is the analysis of both Walt

Disney Company and Woodruff Arts Center.

1. Walt Disney Company

Walt Disney Company is an American diversified multinational mass media

and entertainment public company, which is founded in October 16, 1923. (Walt

Disney official website) In the report, the company listed six executive officers that

are responsible for all shareholders. What’s more, as a for-profit organization, Disney

sells stocks and collects funds, owner’s liability limited to his or her investment, so it

is a C Corporation.

The report lists the data of FY 2013-FY 2015; it’s convenient for stakeholders

to analysis the situation of company and to estimate the business trend. From the last

page, “In connection with the Annual Report of The Walt Disney Company on Form

10-K for the fiscal year ended October 3, 2015 as filed with the Securities and

Exchange Commission (SEC) on the data” (FY2015_Q4), so the document is

prepared by Disney company, especially managers of various sections, Senior

Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. The document is attested by

SEC to make sure the accuracy of data.

As a shareholder, the only thing people care about is how much money they can

get after investing this company. From the data report, the sales prices of common

stock are increasing. Even though the low prices are fluctuating, the overall trend is

stable increasing. Another information is dividend. On October 3, 2014, the company

declared a $1.15 per share dividend related to fiscal 2014 for shareholders of record
