BACKGROUND

What will happen to Mr. Q if all of a sudden he is diagnosed with terminal colon cancer? What issues will this individual have to deal with? The first issue is realizing is it real, what stage is it in, and is it already in the advanced stage, which means it can’t be cured. The next issue is looking at one’s options. By this, it is finding out what type of support is available. What can be controlled with the cancer I have, who can I talk to and what may happen to me as my body goes through this disease. What are the available options if I am dying from terminal colon cancer? I know my care team has decided that my cancer treatment should be stopped because it’s not helping the cancer of the disease. Mr. Q is wondering about the services available to assist him and his family dealing with issues about and around the disease and dying. These issues are medical, psychological, social, and spiritual. While the patient is competent they should designate who they select as their decision maker when they are unable to do so themselves. They should also have an advanced directive so the family doesn’t feel like they are being pushed into making a certain decision that they really don’t want to. Knowing what to expect lessens the anxiety. The patient should know where they want to be when their life is coming to an end. They should also designate who they choose as the decision-maker for their care when they are unable to decide. Having some idea of what to expect can help you feel less anxious. You might also want to think about where you want to be at the end of your life.
