Business communications plays a critical role in being successful at work. Communication allows employees to understand the task that need to be completed, alert everyone as to what their role is in the organization, and creates a friendly enjoyable atmosphere to work in. Without good communication at work many tasks would be harder than they need to be and chaos can ensue.
The role business communications plays in my day to day activities at work is communicating with customers, communicating with fellow employees, and communicating with the owners of the company. The sign business that I work for requires that I communicate with customers. I have to inform customers of the price the product cost that they want to buy. Also, I must go over the design they want and the colors and type of material they want their sign to be made out of. The price and materials wanted are usually communicated over the phone, but the design and colors are more easily communicated through e-mail. By communicating via e-mail it is easier to get an idea of what the customer wants, whereas if it is communicated by phone it is usually myself communicating design ideas to the customer. Communicating with other employees is critical. It is my responsibility to communicate to them what the customer wants. If I was not communicating with them or the communication between us was not clear the customer is not going to get the product that they desired. Also, I am responsible for assigning task to employees. This may be such task as cleaning up the office, printing a design, counting the money, or filing work. If I do not clearly communicate what I want done then nothing ends up getting done and I usually end up taking on more work myself.
