In this paper our team has researched Ebay, an ecommerce company that created a successful online person-to-person trading community. We looked at the background of the company and discovered their business model. Here we will discuss some of the social, legal, and financial challenges faced by the company. Also, we show how their drive for technological advancements delivered the next generation of ecommerce. Finally, we will investigate some possible future prospects for the company.

Ebay became an ecommerce success simply by connecting people in a way never done before. It was originally designed as an experiment. This experiment became an ecommerce website that eventually grew to be the world's largest Internet auction platform. The mission statement of the Ebay Corporation clearly defines the vision of what Ebay has and will continue to create for buyers and sellers connected in the virtual world:

Founded by Pierre Omidyar in September 1995, Ebay became a robust platform for where merchants of all sizes can buy and sell anything, anytime, anywhere. Ebay is a platform where merchants can compete against each other and win. Pierre was considered a pioneer in the online auction industry. Because of him, people are connected via the internet, and communities are created on a local, national and international scale. They come here to sell their goods safely within the rules and regulations established by Ebay. Buyers now look to do business with both big brands and small businesses online through Ebay.
