Task 1 Recruitment and Selection
In this assignment I will be explaining the different types of recruitment and selection
methods that different businesses use. I will also be explaining in depth these methods for
two different organisations.
There are many reasons why a job vacancy may occur within a business, some of these
reasons include:
Dismissal - this is when an employee is no longer needed for whatever reason by a
business, this could be down to failure to meet deadlines, not being punctual,
committing a crime etc.
Promotion- a promotion is advancement in an employee’s rank in an organization,
when this occurs they will leave their old job behind and be given a new one. This
means the job that is left behind will need filling. This is a very common reason for

Changing jobs - when an employee decides to change jobs for whatever reason
usually because of higher wages they create a job vacancy within the business. When
changing jobs the worker must give their employer at least 2-4 weeks’ notice

Maternity leave - is an employee benefit when they are given paid or unpaid time off
work to care for a child or make arrangements for the child's welfare. This means an
employee won’t be in work for a certain about of time so the business will have to
recruit for temporary work.
Retirement - this is when an employee stops work completely. They have reached an
age or saved enough money up to last the rest of their lifetime. When this happens in a
business the worker must notify their employee and the business must advertise for a
new job.
Long term illness- an employee may become ill for a very long time and may not be
able to work as efficiently as they normally do. Therefor when this occurs a business
has to find cover by employing someone for the duration the illness.
