Summary of 2 websites

The first website I visited was http://sofiasrusticfurniture.com/. This sites focus is similar to what I’m creating in that it has furniture for sale. The furniture displayed on this website has an “older feel” to it like the furniture that will be sold on the site I’m creating. The difference between this sites focus and mine is that this site offers handcrafted new furniture whereas mine will offer refurbished furniture. One of the appealing aspects I like about this site is that it uses a combined hierarchical and linear structure. I also find the home page to appealing as it has a good amount of information about what type of furniture is offered. Something I don’t find appealing about this site is that there isn’t a place to login to your account from the home screen. You must first click the, my account link, then you’re taken to a page where you can login. While there is a brief description on the homepage, about what the company offers, another thing I don’t find appealing is that there isn’t an “about” page. Having a page that talks about the history of the company or the owner could help customers “connect” with your vision and may push them to buy products from you. When usability options come into play, I felt like this site was easy to use and navigate. This website can be used with Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox to name a few browsers. I was also able to use it from my Android smartphone. The site provides a smartphone version of the website which is nice. I feel like this site also creates access to people who may be visually impaired. All of the products being offered have nice text descriptions and the mouse pointer turns into a screen magnifier when moving it over the furniture to get a closer look which is good for people with visual impairments. Navigation through the site is easy to understand and there is also a sitemap option provided.
