Racism still exist in our country long after Native Americans, or African Americans became citizens. Neo-Nazi Derek Vinyard lives a life with violence and racism. After Vinyard kills two African American males for stealing his car, he goes to prison. Danny has a younger brother Danny. Both experienced racism at a young age because of a comment their father had made. Derek agrees with his father right away, and has his father’s praise. Bob Sweeney says to Derek, “There was a moment, when I used to blame everything and everyone for all the pain and suffering and vile things that happened to me, that I saw happen to my people. Used to blame everybody. Blamed White people, blamed society, blamed God. I didn't get no answers 'cause I was asking the wrong questions. You have to ask the right questions” (Kaye. 1998). Derek reply’s, “Like what?” (Kaye, 1998). And Bob says, “Has anything you've done made your life better?” (Kaye, 1998). This helped Derek open his eyes. Danny is growing up in Dereks shadow. He states that when people look at him they see or expect his brother. With their father gone Danny looks up to Derek. After Derek is released from prison he does not want to continue to live his previous life style. His goal is to also help his younger brother Danny from following down the same path. Member of the neo-Nazi group give Derek a hard time when he tries to change Danny, and tell Derek that Danny will come to them anyway. Racism is creating some negative issues between the family and Derek is trying to overcome this.

After Derek’s father had passed away he was angry. He was acting mainly from this anger. Derek says to Danny, “It's wrong and it was eating me up, it was going to kill me. And I kept asking myself all the time, how did I buy into this shit? It was because I was pissed off, and nothing I ever did ever took that feeling away. I killed two guys, Danny, I killed them.
