A major advancement in Technology over the years has resulted in both positive and negative impact on the lives of human. Technology can be defined in a general way that it is developed and applied so that we can do things cheaper, faster and easily (Volti 2012). Technology is dynamic and is used to solve issues such as social, economic, political problems, thus increasing productivity in the organisation (Ciborra & Lanzara 1994). Technology is used to achieve goals and shape the future or organisation (McAuley et al. 2007).

Today, Technology is used as a platform to store, utilise, create and exchange information into data, images and multimedia presentation (Hatch & Cunliffe 2006). According to Selwyn (2002), technology has change the way we work and has an impact in our lives.

There are many factors that shape technology to how it is today. Some of these factors include culture, economics, politics and gender relations have shaped technology (Volti, 2005). In addition, there are also four different views on technology and how it shapes the world - Modernist, Symbolic-Interpretive, Postmodernism and Critical Theory. In this essay, I will be focusing on two of the perspectives, which are Modernism and Symbolic-interpretive perspectives.

Hence by analysing each of these perspectives, we are able to establish different views on how the current technology will affect the development of technology in the future.

The first perspective is the modernist perspective. According to Hatch & Cunliffe (2006), the modernism perspective takes on a positivist approach and focuses on how goods and services are being produced and manufactured. Its main objective is to increase the efficiency and improve the performance of the workplace.
