THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction

One of the greatest innovation in the technology of today’s generation is the used of social networking sites. Facebook became a global phenomenon because of its features that other social networking sites don’t have. Mark Zuckerberg is the creator of Facebook. He was a student a student in Harvard University. Facebook was created for the students of Harvard for identification purposes and to make a social relationship to each other. Facebook is just one of the social networking sites that is widespread in terms of popularity. Today, there are more than 936 million Facebook users who are active users in the social networking site (expandedramblings.com, 2015). However because of this sudden growth rate in social networking site the Facebook becomes a gateway of social networking addiction. Facebook became a psychological disorder that is becoming raging throughout the world. It can be addressed as Facebook Addiction Disorder because of addiction it neglect the personal life, mental preoccupation, mood modifying experiences, tolerance and thus the addiction behavior have been present in some people who use social network sites excessively (Young, 1998).There was a clinical relevance of Facebook addiction conceptualization under Internet Spectrum Addiction Disorder (Karaiskos et al, 2010).Thus, Facebook addiction has become almost synonymous with social networking addiction (Griffiths, 2013).

In addition there are several evidences from past researches that shows how the usage of internet had interfered with addicts’ academic work, professional performance and their social lives (Louis &Paul, 2012). Thus the overuse of Facebook has a potential to bring the negative effects on individual’s study, work, health, and personal relationship (Caplan, 2008).
