Every six years right before the Elections in the Philippines, the media and the commission on elections would organize an event for the public to know about the intentions of each presidential candidate. Here, they tackle about different topics and problems found in our country. They are given one minute and thirty seconds to say what they want to say regarding the different situations presented on to them and they are also given the chance to debate with one another given those things.

This year there were five candidates, Jejomar Binay, Rodrigo Duterte, Grace Poe, Mar Roxas and Miriam Defensor Santiago. They tackled topics, which were divided into three rounds; the first round was about wealth, corruption, government experience, health, morality, and Typhoon Yolanda. Basically this first round was more on the specific problems each candidate was facing within the government and themselves. There were two of them who caught my eye the most in this round, this was senator Poe and mayor Duterte. When senator Poe was asked about her track record due to her being the one who had the least experience among the others, she said that the length of your stay in the government shouldn’t say that you’re better than another candidate. This is very important to me because everyone should have an equal chance when it comes to these things and everyone should see what they have done and the importance of what they’ve done to help the Philippines become a better nation. In this round too mayor Duterte stated what he planned to do, and his was to get rid of the crimes and to stop corruption in less than three months. This statement may be backed up as we see that the crime rate and corruption rate is very low in Davao due to Duterte being the Mayor.
