1. A business can lock in customers and suppliers with a rewards program for using their company. Having a United Airlines credit card provides me with points that I can use to purchase an airplane ticket or even other goods provided from United Airlines with their Sky miles. Every time you purchase something with the card you receive points. This could be very beneficial for someone who travel a lot, every time they make everyday purchases they get closer to a free ticket.

2. A business can leverage its investments by investing in a technology platform that they can further expand on. They can make investments in information technology and help them improve their operations while also keeping their customers satisfied. Apple for example; came out with a whole new unique operating system completely different from what everyone was use to with Microsoft window. They came out with the iPhone, that can only be used with other Apple software and hardware.

3. A business can use internet technologies to form a virtual company or/and become an agile competitor. Take Amazon for example, they are completely a virtual company and is leading the way in their market against their competitors. The company can put out products and services for its customers with the customer never having to leave their home. The company uses online deliverance and a multitude of other companies to generate their revenue which is considerably greater then what their costs are.

4. I agree with him 100%, anyone and everyone can have the same technology now these days but how it’s used is what determines the successful outcome of the technology and the company using it. A successful manager can exploit technology by finding other uses for the technology that their company uses and find another purpose to use it. Technology in itself is not going to have a competitive edge without someone else using it to its full potential.
