Mel’s Place

A professional point of sales (POS) system can be an effective tool to continue the success that Mel’s Place has experienced for the last 25 years. In today’s society, speed and accuracy coupled with customer satisfaction are high priority in the restaurant business. A POS system can increase the efficiency of the wait and kitchen staff’s performance. For Mel’s Place, making the step into the technology age and procuring a MIS/POS system will not only improve his level of service, but it will assist in maintaining the managerial and operational control.

There are many benefits to using a POS system in restaurant operations; one of the benefits is speed and accuracy. The robust lunch crowd can be very stressful for Mel. Utilized properly, the POS system, would accurately and quickly serve the time-constrained lunch customers. Systems like Toast Tab POS operate via an iPad and iPhone interface (Tab, 2016). Wait staff would be able to take the order, relay the information to the kitchen staff, directly from the customer’s table. This action improves efficiency by eliminating the need for the wait staff to physically carry the order to the kitchen or a single terminal. Another added benefit of the POS system for Mel’s Place is the kitchen’s capability to immediately inform the wait staff that the ordered food items are ready to be served to waiting customers, or notify them when menu items are no longer available. Further, the POS system allows customers the freedom to complete their credit card transaction right at the table, eliminating an additional step at checkout time.

Toast POS is set up like an app, rather than a computer program. This simplifies the digital interface, using a simple app format that most people are already familiar and use a smart device.
