Chapter 1

The Problem and Its Background

Introduction

Database is a very complex part of Computer Science and Information Technology. Nowadays every computer students such as the researcher is familiar with it through the use of websites, data storing or in a form of entertainment. The researcher has the interest in Database regarding the relationship of it mostly in websites, programs, and other computer related field. The researcher believes Database will be a great solution to the development of easy data tasking and data compiling. The computer students such as the researcher will develop more information and knowledge regarding the use of Database from time to time or in the near future.

The theoretical foundation of Relational Databases was formulated by Dr. Edgar (Ted) Codd at IBM Research, in Almaden, California and publishes a seminal paper in 1969, entitled “A Relational Model of Data for Large Share Data Banks”. Ingres from the University of California at Berkeley was the first academic initiative which picked up Codd’s published work from IBM and then developed and Oracle was the first commercial product based on his work. In 1976, Peter Chen published a very important Paper on Data Modeling entitled "The Entity-Relationship Model - Towards a Unified View of Data" in the ACM Transaction on Database Systems 1. Database developers hold a unique and specific realm of skills not common to most computing professionals. Because of this, salaries for database administrators (especially those who offer Oracle skills) are quite good. An in-depth knowledge of database systems and design is essential for the future of technology and the continued emergence of data processing applications. 2

In today’s society, property must be protected from theft. Database itself can be a precious data that needs security. Databases can only be protected by copyright as compilations. 17 US Code 101 defines a compilation as "a collection and assembling of preexisting...
