The digit “0”is an important placeholder in a number. For example the number 4 769 083 is read as “four million seven hundred sixty-nine thousand eighty –three.” With the inclusion of the zero, the value of the 9 is 9 000.without the zero, the zero the number becomes 476 983 and the value of the digit 9 becomes 900. The number is read now as “four hundred seventy-six thousand ,nine hundred eight-three.”
The number 5 460 can also be read and written in many ways .
1.five thousand four hundred sixty
2. 54 hundreds and 6 tens
3. 546 tens
4. 5 thousands and 460 ones
5. 54 hundreds and 60 ones
The collection of numbers which includes 0, 1, 2, 3, ...is called the set of the whole numbers, but a collection of the number which starts from 1, 2, 3, … is called counting or natura numbers.
