Specific Purpose: To persuade the audience that death penalty should be terminated.

Introduction: Death Penalty or also known as capital punishment, “is a government sanctioned practice whereby a person is put to death by the state as a punishment for a crime.”

Attention Device: “To take a life when a life has been lost is revenge, not justice.”

Topic Revelation Statement: Today, I will give you three reasons why death penalty should be abolished.

Significance Statement: This is significant because of the impact it has on the society.

Preview of Main Points: Death penalty should be abolished because it is a cruel and inhumane punishment, it is more expensive than spending a life in prison, and it does not discourage crime rates.

Body

I. I am going to start off by giving you a brief history of death penalty.

A. Death penalty in America

Transition: Now that I have talked about its history, I will give you the different types of execution method.

II. Different execution methods

A. Lethal injection is a form of execution where they use three different drugs that can lead to muscle paralysis and eventually stop the heart from beating.

B. Electrocution is when they use any form of electricity such as the electric chair to impose death.

C. Hanging is a form of execution in which they apply a ligature around a person’s neck.

D. Firing squad is the execution by means of shooting. It is most common to military.

E. Gas chamber is when they use nitrogen gas or any other toxic gas as a form of execution.

Transition: Now that I have explained the different types of execution method, I will give you the reasons why death penalty should end.

III. Reasons why death penalty should be abolished.

A. Death penalty violates human rights.

B. Death penalty costs a lot more compare to a life in prison.

C. Death penalty does not reduce crime rates....
