Walmart’s Organizational Behavioral Analysis

Organizational behavior (OB) is the study of human behavior in organizations settings, the interface between human behavior and the organization (Baack, 2012). Whenever people interact in organizations there are many factors to consider. OB plays a major role in organizational development, enhancing organizational performance, as well as enhancing individual and group performance, satisfaction, and commitment (Shajahan & Shajahan, 2004). OB is important for management because it involves issues that managers face daily such as leadership, decision making, motivation and job satisfaction. Managers need to understand how to delegate tasks and organize resources they also analyze behavior and motivate productivity to be successful (Baack, 2012).

OB also deals with organizational culture. Organizational culture is difficult to define however; it is relevant to how organizations behave. For instance, a retail store will have a different culture than a movie theater. Understanding and defining these organizational cultures and behaviors is also a central topic in organizational behavior (Sorensen, 2002). Organizational culture is the shared values, experiences, rules, and behavior of the workplace. Managers analyze organization behavior to gain a detailed look at the organizations workplace behavior, culture, and organizational practices they gain greater insight about communication patterns and conflicts (Shajahan & Shajahan, 2004). It helps managers find solution-oriented policies and enable change when needed.

The organization that will be used for the behavior analysis is Walmart. Walmart is in the services/retail industry. Walmart’s carries general merchandise as well as a wide selection of groceries. The stores has several departments such as the...
