The Christian Struggle
Everyday Christians confront a myriad of temptations. For this reason, being a Christian in a non-Christian world is tough. One of the places where believers face this struggle is school. Also, Satan lures God’s children in the workplace. Moreover, immorality is even present in Christian homes. Although Christianity grows by millions of followers every year, it is very evident that believers on every corner of the Earth struggle with being “in the world” but “not of the world.”
For instance, Christian teenagers have a daily challenge with resisting the immorality that is common with friends and school. A Christian friend who used to attend a public high school realized that he faced many temptations when he hung around his classmates. He was offered drugs, sex, illicit ways of making money, and many other things. My friend would always refuse, but was constantly attacked by peer pressure. He admitted that sometimes it was extremely difficult to say “no” to an offer. One day, my friend and his classmates were at the park, and a classmate of his offered him a cigarette. My friend at first said “no”, but as a result, he was ridiculed and severely made fun of. He couldn’t take it anymore and eventually decided to smoke. After having smoked the cigarette, my friend felt a deep guilt inside him. He went to his parents and lachrymosely confessed what he had done. He told his parents that he didn’t mean to smoke the cigarette; he said that he was tempted and lured by his classmates. He expressed that it is extremely difficult being a Christian and living in a world that doesn’t care about integrity or morality.
Furthermore, Christians are equally exposed to sin in their workplaces. My father’s Christian friend, John, used to work at a liquor store, and recounted his experience with the temptation of giving free drinks to his friends. Everyday, John’s friends would come to the liquor store...
