1. Compare and contrast the role of a systems analyst, business analyst, and infrastructure analyst.

* The role of the systems analyst is to work with project team member towards developing the right system in an effective manner. They also occasionally serve as “change agents” who identify and implement organizational changes to systems. Business analysts primarily focus on concerns regarding the business aspects of a system; they aid in identifying the value a certain system would add to the company, and develop ways of making business processes more efficient. Infrastructure analyst’s primary focus is on the technical aspects of how systems interact with an organization’s network infrastructure; they effectively act as “software architects” who use their knowledge of the whole IT environment to help guide application design decisions.

2. Compare and contrast phases, steps, techniques, and deliverables, and describe the phases of SDLC

* Phases are the different stages in the development process, steps are the processes undertaken to accomplish each phase, techniques are the methods used in each step, and deliverables are the various documents and files that explain the different parts of a system for use in the next phase. SDLC phases should be viewed as a “process of gradual refinement,” wherein each phase further refines the work that has previously been done. For example, deliverables produced in the analysis phase – like information regarding what the system will do and who will be doing it - give a good estimate for what a new system is capable of. These deliverables are then used as input in the design phase, where they are refined to produce new deliverables that are even more detailed on how to build the system. As before, this new set of deliverables are utilized in the implementation phase as a guide for creating the actual system....
