BPH referred as Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia is a medical term that used to describe the noncancerous enlargement of prostate. BHP is quite common especially in middle aged men. The prostate in those men at those ages tend to grow due to several reasons. The growing does not produce any symptoms at the beginning till the enlarging prostate compressed the urethra that passes through the prostate. The pressure exert on the urethra cause the problem of urinary as it is harder to urinate forcefully and emptying the bladder completely. The retention of urine in the bladder may cause bladder or kidney infection.

The Symptom of BPH

Different men may possess different symptom of BPH depending the grow pattern of the prostatic tissues. Normally, men with BPH will experience the problem of increased frequent urination as the bladder is unable to empty completely. Nocturia, a condition where a person is awakened to urinate several time during nighttime may occur. They have the sensation of incompletely emptied bladder and dribbling may happen in between urination. The force and speed of urine flow also diminish causing the need of a push or strain. Burning pain in urination may take place in addition to urgency, the strong desire to urinate. Man may leak urine when they could not relieve on time as soon as the brain send signal that the bladder is full. The patient may also experience difficulties in starting urinating and once it started, it is difficult to stop. Other symptoms of BPH is epididymitis and asymptomatic.

The Causes of BPH

BPH mostly happen due to hormonal imbalance. Besides the body changes in men that cause hormonal imbalance, the declination of testosterone levels as well as the increase of hormone estrogens also contribute to the enlarging of prostate. Testosterone is converted into DHT when prolactin is release in high amount by enzyme 5-alpha reductase.
