The article Being Philosophical May be Limited to Leisure Classes talks about how many people in today’s world are not showing interest in philosophy because it is being view as non-vocational. The article goes go to describe how many colleges are starting to drop Philosophy classes because many people they are seeing a decline in interest from the students. This is believed to be happening because students feel that taking expensive student loans out to study something that is non-vocational is pointless and a waste of time and money. With so many of the colleges in the world stopping these programs, it is going to limit the subject to a small select group of people. The article continues on about how if things keep going this way philosophy is going to go back to being a leisure study to the people that can afford to do it. It then goes on to talk about how many employers have noticed the better thinking skills of Philosophy students, and the great benefits they can bring to their company.

The way the article portrays Philosophy as a bigger need for our country then what most people believe it to be. It provides many benefits to the students that take it, because it provides them with the skills they need to thinking critically about problems they experience at work or in their normal lives. This can provide many benefits not only to the person taking the class, but it can also have benefits for the companies that might hire the students that take these classes. It also allows the students to be able adapt to any situation because they will be able to think outside the box and look at the problems and questions they are being presented in a way other people who have not taken these type of classes can. According to chapter on of our text many philosophy students have tested higher on every test there is to get into graduate school.
