For any company to run smoothly and successfully, the management and employees need to be able to communicate effectively. There are a number of effective communication norms to be followed. There are interpersonal communication roles for both management and employees and barriers to communicate that they have to overcome. They need to be able to navigate through international and intercultural interpersonal communication on a global business scale. Managers need to have good verbal, nonverbal, and written communication skills. They need to be able to engage an audience during a presentation and encourage active listening. They need to be able to negotiate through conflicts while leading teams and group meetings. This paper will provide multiple approaches, methods, and techniques to be able to effectively communicate through these topics.

Communication takes place within a company between different groups of people like supervisors with employees, employees with employees, and supervisors with their team members. From time to time, communication crosses international borders. Communication takes forms in written and verbal methods. Management communication functions in planning, organization, directing, and control.

There are a variety of barriers for managers and employees to overcome. For both, some of the barriers are age, gender, exclusive language, education level, operational rank, and personalities. There are also situational factors that come into play as well; such as emotions settings, and distractions. For international barriers, there are transmission problems like slang, technical terminology, and nonverbal contradictions of verbal messages. There are ways to overcome these barriers however. The sender’s duties are to be aware that barriers exist, to be empathetic, to pay attention to nonverbal cues, and confirm the understanding of the message. For the receiver, active listening seeking clarification of the message is their duty.
