Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to construct and support an argument on my decision to further my career in Business and Finance in the Energy industry by pursuing a Master’s degree in Business Administration. The argument is based on the benefits of obtaining a Master’s degree in Business Administration, briefly looking at my personal Junigan 16-Type Personality test results, ISTJ (organized, compulsive, private, trustworthy, and practical) and examining my professional career goals.

Many believe that obtaining a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) will expediently increase career opportunities and increase salaries. They see an MBA degree as the fastest way to climb the corporate ladder (Gupta, Saunders, & Smith, July 2007). Although an MBA degree could put one on the fast track, according to Graduate Management Admissions Council (GMAC) Survey, employers are seeking candidates with at least three years of work experience. Work experience coupled with an MBA degree will increase the opportunities for higher-level positions and higher salaries (What Corporate Recruiters Say, 2011).

The Jungian 16-Type Personality Self-Assessment test scored me as an ISTJ. A score of ISTJ indicates personality traits of one that is organized, compulsive, private, trustworthy, and practical. It outlines possible career choices as an office manager, accountant, business manager, tax agent, and public servant. In the world of finance, it is important for an individual to be organized, trustworthy, practical, and private. This reinforced my decision to pursue an MBA degree to propel my career in business and finance to the next level.
