Abstract

Mindfulness uses meditation, present focus awareness, develops nonjudgmental views towards self, acceptance and an empathy towards others. The goal is to reduce stress in order to make objective decisions. Mindfulness training can be used to develop authentic leaders and high potential employees who will become future leaders. Corporations such as, Yahoo, Google, Apple and the United States Marines have incorporated mindfulness training. The results for the Marine Corp are less stressed Soldiers during strenuous deployments. Mindfulness training has been adapted in a leadership course in the University of Massachusetts Medical School to prepare students to make mindful decisions in their personal lives and develop future leaders who are in the present moment are accepting and make objective decisions. Mindfulness is a disruptive approach to the leader development of an autopilot leader yet is an approach however, the use of mindfulness training can be used on the autopilot leader with techniques that require interruption of the mind through evaluation, the five senses and acceptance.
