Our fingers have a friction ridges or a series of hills or valleys, which form a special pattern, can differentiate one person from another one. It is a unique identification of each person in the plant earth. Even twins have different fingerprints, but however, not everybody in the world has fingerprints. There are only countable people, who born with a genetic difference, do not have fingerprint. Many authority will use fingerprint as a key method to identify suspects or other purposes. Fingerprint identification is one of the most well know and publicized biometrics.
Using fingerprints as a method to identify a person has a long history. In ancient China, Qin Dynasty, Chinese recorded a detail about using handprints as evidence during a burglary investigations. Moreover, a clay seals bearing friction ridge impressions were used during both Qin and Han Dynasties. In 1400s AD Persia, a 14th century Persian book attributed to Khajeh Rashiduddin Fazloolah Hamadani, included comments about the practice of identifying persons from their fingerprints. In 1823 Purkinje, a anatomy professor from University of Breslau, John Evangelist Purkinje, published his thesis discussing nine fingerprint patterns. Later on, Professor Coulier published his observation that fingerprints can be developed on paper by iodine fuming, and moreover, he further explained how to preserve such print and mentioned the potential uses for identify suspects by using a magnifying glass. In 20th century, the use of fingerprint had dramatically extended. In 1901, the fingerprint branch was created in July 1901 at New Scotland Yard, using the Henry System of Fingerprint Classification. In 1905, the US Army, US Department of Justice, and US Navy began to use fingerprints for identification purpose.
