The movie I choose to watch for the movie review was “Calendar Girls.” Calendar Girls was a very interesting film about middle-age people. The main point of the movie was to express how middle-age women could learn how to work together to improve their community. Each character in the movie was able to provide a positive attitude and great service.

Older adults are depicted in this movie as “hard workers.” Each adult is portrayed in a way where they have to worry about their personal lives and about the organization their involved in. The older adults are also very energetic with outgoing personalities. For the most part they all seemed pretty joyful throughout the movie, except for the sad parts of course.

In this movie the older adults lives are very meaningful. I believe that everyone life is meaningful. Their lives are meaningful because they have family members that care about them. Their lives are also because the main characters started a charity event for the local hospital, which was pretty amazing. In the movie Calendar Girls, ageism was shown by the older adults creating a nude calendar shoot. Most people would not expect middle-age adults to pose nude for a calendar shoot.

Some positive images of the older adults were, giving back to the community. The ladies were apart of the “Women Institute” which was a local community service club. Sometimes they would make cakes, bread rolls, knitting, and painting flowers. Some of the older adults had regular jobs, but they still participated in giving back to the community. Another piece of evidence is the older adults starting a fundraiser for the local hospital.

There was one theory that stood out in this movie, which was the activity theory. The activity theory explains how psychological and social needs of the elderly are no different from those of middle age. It also determines ones ability to engage in the community.
