Ethical Situations in Business

February 18, 2015

Company Q is not thinking about the communities it is doing business in.  The company needs to make a commitment to its customers and communities.  That is the first in four steps, if it wants to be a socially responsible company.  I am glad they finally added healthier options.  It should not have taken years, to listen to your customers requests.  The customers could always not request anything and just go somewhere else for their groceries.  There needs to be open communication with your customers and employees.  The president and all the way down the chain of command, there needs to be a commitment made to the city.

In today's world, people are eating healthier.  People are paying more attention to what they are eating, then 20 years ago.  This is the second step, to add healthier options at the stores for your customers to purchase, just seems like a smart thing to do.  People are eating healthier, so lets give them healthier grocery items to buy.  Not just a few items, how about a whole new section of the store.  This should not cost shareholders a dime, but rather increase revenue with new customers.  Maybe it is a customer that only shops for organic produce and you're closer to his house, then the store that they went to before.  All at the same time you can advertise that you care so much for your customers, that your are now stocking healthier options.

Now for our third step, about the food bank issue.  This should not even be up for discussion if you are a socially responsible company.  You need to recycle wherever you can.  Why not recycle your food waste. This is food you would have thrown out.  You can actually write this off on your taxes at the end of the year, with the right program implemented.  The employees will have food waste logs and everything gets recorded, this takes care of theft.  They can even record any of their new organic produce, should it go bad...
