Prospectus: Prejudice

My Chosen Word: Prejudice

What I know About the Word: I know that the theme of prejudice is involved many books involving slavery, war, or racial discrimination. One literary example that carries out the theme of prejudice is How to Kill a Mockingbird. Tom Robinson, a black man is being accused for rape without evidence. He’s an innocent man who’s brought into the court not based off his crime, but his skin color. Furthermore, the word prejudice also fits under the Holocaust because Hitler viewed all Jews as abominations of God. His judgment was colored by prejudice because he biased. The word ‘prejudice’ also associates with many incidents in history and the modern world, such as the hostility of the whites towards the blacks because of their different skin colors, the hateful judgments that motivate people to work against gay rights, and more dark acts from mankind because of it. I know the variety of the types of prejudice in the present that cause people to judge and hate each other today, such as gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, poverty, race, and clothing preference.

My definition: Biased judgment that’s only influenced by rumors or hate.

Reason for My Word Choice: I chose the word ‘prejudice’ because its theme not only plays a significant role in the Holocaust, but because it is responsible for the cause of many wars and the flaws of today’s society. The theme of prejudice has played a significant role throughout history, and also answers the questions why mankind today lacks love and peace. Furthermore, I chose this word because I felt it was important to emphasize it as a major cause in humanity’s downfalls.
