Food Fight

It was 7:30A.M.when the school bell rang to signal the start of another day at Perry High School. Though it seemed a typical day at Perry High School-students making their way from one class to another- there was something special about today: it was the senior’s last day. Throughout the day, I had overheard rumors of what the senior class should do as a prank. Seniors of the previous years had performed “school-approved” pranks, such as running around in front of the school, in our opinion events of that caliber would not be worth the effort. Due to the previous, “inadequate”, pranks the Class of 2012 vowed to create a scene that could be rightly called a prank. Ideas ranged from letting loose numbered chickens and skipping a number, to throwing pieces of paper on the hallway floors mixed with rubber bands, to ensure the mess couldn’t be swept up easily. However, there was one prank that stood out in our minds.

School seemed to go quicker than usual, as the hours fading into each other while I went from class to class. At 10:40P.M., the chimes sounded through the P.A. system to signal the end of 9th mod. After I left physics class I headed towards the cafeteria. I had lunch this mod and couldn’t wait to eat. As I arrived at the cafeteria I bought my lunch and took a seat at a table with my friends. Looking around I noticed a number of staff members standing around the cafeteria, one of them the school’s friendly, “in house,” police officer, and all four of Perry’s principals. They intensely scanned the lunchroom crowd, attentive to any potential sign of disruption to the regimented crowd. I assumed they were thinking the same thing that the senior class was: most of the day had passed and the senior class hadn’t yet performed their prank. The staff must have thought that their presence would serve as a deterrent to misbehavior. Though, they should have known that unruliness could occur regardless of their presence.
