Paquette, Daniel. “The Unexpected Way Disney Princesses Affect Little Boys.”
The
Washington Post.

As many people think that Disney is safe for their children to watch as they grow up, they
don't realize the influence Disney films has on children. In Disney films gender roles are created,
people tend to believe that Disney is a safe community for children to experience and it might be,
but it definitely has its hidden messages. Girls are affected by appearance as explained in an
newspaper quoted by Sarah M. Coyne, “...
tend to place a higher importance on appearance. They
may forever chase an unattainable beauty ideal, a road that can lead to misery.”(Paquette) This
explains how girls are affected by Disney's films theyre image of beauty is defined for them.
This can affect young girls in many ways although parents don't realize it can very much affect
the future of young girls. If girls don't meet their expectation of a perfect body it can cause
depression or even bullying to occur. As commented in the newspaper, “They might not exert
much effort in, say, math class, sabotaging a skill that could have blossomed into a successful
engineering career”(Paquette). Disney doesn't show girls how to achieve their goals and be
successful therefore what comes to young girls attention is beauty not achievement. Through
Disney's eyes a woman must be beautiful and have a perfect body figure, but does not portray the
trait of intelligence within women in their gender roles which can affect many young girls.
