I. Identification.

The central ethical issue given in this case study is “What should Dr. Sain do about Maxx Apollo?” However, that is not the only ethical issue in this case. There are also ethical issues such as: “is it right for a company to bribe its way into winning a bid?” “Should OSMA be allowed to charge higher fees just because they are now the official health care providers the Athens Lumberjacks?” Or “is it right for the coach, owner and general manager to risk someone’s health and future just to benefit the team and the city?” Comparing these ethical issues to the main ethical issue, it is clear that Dr. Sain’s issue is the main issue because, not only is he feeling the pressure to do the medically right thing for the patient, but he also is feeling pressure from the OSMA company, a losing team wouldn’t help the image of the company, as well as the pressure from the Owner, General Manager, and Head Coach to clear Maxx to play so that the team can win the playoffs and the town can benefit from it. So, no matter what decision he makes there are going to be negative repercussions, but the question is; what is the ethical decision for Dr. Sain?
