Invest In Yourself – Exercise 3 (Chapters 5-7)

1. Write a third draft of your personal statement. Include any changes indicated on your second draft, Exercise 2 worksheet. Write your final personal statement, one that will be reflected on your personal webpage below:

a. Switch worksheets with another member of your team and ask that person to read your personal statement. They must make one recommendation/comment regarding your statement. (i.e. is anything unclear, is the statement too generic, etc.) Have them write their opinion below and initial underneath.

2. Go to LinkedIn.com and join two professional groups. What groups did you choose and why did you choose to did you choose to join these two groups? What benefit does it offer for your career goals?

3. Discuss a networking or organizational event you have attended relevant to your career goals. Provide information about the event and what you learned from it. If you have never attended one, research one that you should attend. There are plenty offered by university student organizations… just ask.

4. Choose an additional three companies to “follow” on LinkedIn. List the companies below with a brief description of why you selected each company.

5. Start your own domain experts. Map out who you trust on at least two different topics. For example, who is your go-to person on technology, marketing, interviewing skills, etc.? Do you “follow” these people on Twitter and are you connected with them on LinkedIn? List the people below with a description of why you selected them, etc.
