The mineral olivine is a magnesium iron silicate with the formula (Mg+2, Fe+2)2SiO4. Thus it is a type of nesosilicate or orthosilicate. It is a common mineral in the Earth's subsurface but weathers quickly on the surface. This report focuses on its sand and powder. Amount of MgO used in olivines in the industry is usually required to be above 46% and the amount of Total Fe oxides to be no more than 7-8%. Also, SiO2 amount needs to be between 38 to 42%. Total of other metal oxides required being less than 3% and loss on ignition is required not to exceed 2%.
