Keeping Terrorism out of America

The terrorist attack on September 11, 2001 was a terrible incident. Thousands of people died at the hands of a group of radical terrorists. What is significant about the terrorists is that they entered the United States illegally. Therefore, by stopping illegal immigrants from coming in, terrorism is reduced. This is because the attackers are prevented from coming into the United States as well. Because terrorists are coming into America through illegal immigration, the lives of many Americans are impacted negatively through terrorist attacks.

Terrorism from illegal immigration is happening more and more. According to Caroline May’s article, More than 30 Immigrants Admitted to the U.S. Recently Implicated in Terrorism, more than thirty immigrants recently admitted to committing a terrorist attack within the United States from 2012 to 2015. Now, illegal immigrants themselves are not the problem. The problem is the terrorists who are able to blend in with the other llegal immigrants when they come in. To add on to that, illegal immigration is on the rise. For the past few decades, according to Brad Plumer in Illegal immigration may be rising again — after years of decline, immigrants have been coming in by the millions (2013). The problem is that little is being done to stop the terrorists that come in as a result.

A good solution would be that there need to be newer or reinforced policies put in place for illegal immigration and terrorism to ensure the safety of United States citizens. For instance, in response to the concerns of the public following the 9/11 attack, according to Immigrants (Policy Toward) by Isabelle L. Curro, President George Bush signed many antiterrorism packages into law, and his administration has initiated new policies and practices to maximize security in the United States (2004).
