We live in a materialistic world all working so hard to have more money always wishing for a better life many even could be workaholic always hungry for extra jobs and money some are even willing to go against their dignity and law for money, But is money everything? Is it that important to do all these things? Consider this, Money is not everything. But everything needs Money.

The materials used in this project are coins of monetary value. An interesting fact that isn’t shown in the photograph is that the coins are of various origin, not just Canadian. As a result even though they are mundane everyday objects they had some sentimental value to me. A few were from India, which made me reflect on how the actual monetary value of the coin is so much less than those of a Canadian coin. It was interesting because I started thinking about how silly it was that I’m playing with all these metal objects that actually mean so much in society. Money essentially makes the world go around.

I chose to use money to create a city. I got the idea because I was playing around with the jar I had and I just started stacking up piles beside each other. As the piles grew next to each other they started resembling a neat little city. However the more piles I built closer to each other, the more difficult it became. They started wavering and falling over knocking each other down, coins flying everywhere. It almost perfectly and ironically reflected the rise and fall of monetary systems and economies within cities and urban lifestyles.

When one thinks of money, one thinks of value. This project made me reflect on how absurd the whole idea of money is. Literally, pieces of metal seemingly dictate our lives. The colours of the coins are so dull and drab, especially the older they are. I found this representative of urban lifestyles as well. While newer coins are shiny and eye-catching, as your collection grows the excitement wears off and they are not as significant as they once were. I...
