Riordan Manufacturing is a company looking to upgrade their HR system. Their HR system is out of date and needs improvements to its usefulness and effectiveness. Based on the Service Request SR-rm-004, this paper will prepare and describe information-gathering techniques and design methods for the Riordan Manufacturing HR System project.

The information-gathering techniques are one of many important roles that will help with Riordan Manufacturing HR system. Gathering information from sources must be reliable and valid for the project and the information must relate to the project and fulfill the requirements as well.

Information-gathering techniques:

Interviewing – a useful technique to gather facts, opinions, and speculations. Interviews cost more but yield more information. Group interviews can produce a more effective use of time management and enables people to hear opinions of others and to agree or disagree. Guidelines should be established and followed for a properly conducted interview, such as a checklist or appointment schedule. Questions will be asked containing open-ended or close-ended questions that permit responses to be given with the desired level of information you seek without phrasing questions in ways that imply wrong or right answers. Listen carefully to what is being said and remain neutral to seek a diverse view of the organization.

Questionnaires- are another technique used that is more cost effective than interviews. Respondents chosen should be representatives of all users. Design questionnaires are mostly closed-ended questions which can be administered over the phone or in person.

Document analysis- documentation serves to clarify understanding, it creates the records which can be referred to at some later date and which serve as the basis for future work and decisions. Good documentation eliminates the need to...
