The state court system in Alabama consists of three systems, state trial court,( district court, municipal court, or superior court), state appellate court and the state supreme court. The state trial court system hear cases as small as traffic violations to cases a large as murder trials. The state appellate court hear cases that were lost in the trial courts and are appealed by the lawyer and the state supreme courts is the cases court and they can overrule any cases heard by lower court. The state court systems here in Alabama only hear and prosecute cases where the crime has been committed within its jurisdiction. An example would be if a citizen of Alabama would commit a crime in Mississippi, then their case could be heard in Alabama because the person is from Alabama, but the court system in Texas was not hear the case because it is not in their jurisdiction. The federal court system hear is made of the same structure as the stare court system the only difference is the federal court system has more jurisdiction than the state. They can hear cases from anywhere in the United States. The federal court system handles mostly the same cases as the state except for minor traffic violations and family court. The federal court system enforces laws that apply to the constitution of the United States, whereas the state court system enforces the laws of that state and its own constitution. This means that the laws that are illegal in Georgia may not be the same as the laws that are legal in Alabama. An example is that some state law in Alabama says that no one should be talking on their cell phones while driving but in other states that law is not enforced. Not all states arrests prostitutes but the state of Alabama says that is illegal for men or women to prostitute their body.
