RE: Apple Inc. New Policy on Social Media Usage

The purpose of this memo is to inform all Apple Inc. employees of the company's new policies on social media usage. This memo is structured in three major parts: 1) a general statement about Apple Inc social media usage 2) policies on personal social media practices and 3) policies on work related social media practices. After reading this memo, all employees should have understating of the importance of good social media usage within the company and their responsibilities as employees and social media users.

General Statement about Apple Inc Social Media Usage:

Apple Inc carefully selected each one of you and decided to trust your abilities and professionalism. Together we have created a company that leads the world of technology and facilitates the use of social media. Therefore, Apple Inc recognizes that social media in the new forms of Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, etc, are an integral part of your personal lives and, more importantly, as employees of this company.

If you are an executive, keep in mind two points as you gear up your social media strategy: First, social technologies including blogs, social networks and Twitter are communication tools. That means a company's social media approach must integrate with its existing communications channels and goals. Second, if you think these guidelines don't apply to you, you are probably already on the endangered species list.
