A Town Named Wangsa Maju

Wangsa Maju, a town that grew tenaciously from what once was a rubber plantation. It is a small town, a suburb that has been divided into a few segments, like a whole cake that had been sliced up. It is a town that consists of residential areas, a few shopping malls, an enchanting lake, big parks, and rows of offices that symbolises growth in the country’s economy. And it is also the town where I have spent the last fifteen wonderful years of my life listening to the linnets’ wings and dancing in the rain in.

Wangsa Maju is undoubtedly a wonderful place to visit, especially when you’re in the pursuit of peace and serenity. The town boasts of lush greenery as trees are kept lining the roads and being part of the landscape for its vital supply of oxygen. The hills are preserved and every now and then, our fellow primates would climb down the treetops for a quick evening visit as the residents attend to their banana fetish. On Saturday mornings, the hills are somewhat a place for recreation; people come, in their exercising gear, to take the challenge of hiking in these peaks as they happily perspire away. Not only does it rejuvenate the mind, town folks have the chance to detach themselves from everyday apprehensions for a moment. At least, that is how the hills served me.

Of the trendy shopping malls and posh houses, I know next to nothing. Wangsa Maju is far from the likes of Bukit Bintang or Damansara. But the winding path in the parks in this little town I know all too well. These squares are well-kept during the day and well-lit during the night. Paths that resembled creeks are cleverly constructed in a way that children have the benefit of playing in a maze, and the way the lights are lit up at night enhances the beauty of these parks in such an amazing way even Thomas Edison wouldn’t be afraid of the dark anymore.
