1. Using the critical thinking skills you have gained so far and referring to the materials provided for this assignment, identify two possible strategies that Thomas Hutchinson or Samuel Adams likely used to develop and improve their thinking as those historical events unfolded prior to taking a stand and acting according to their beliefs.

Two strategies that Thomas Hutchinson and Samuel Adams likely used were observation and evaluation. I think they most likely tried to evaluate all the possible outcomes of the decisions they made. They both probably imagined it differently; however they both thought that observation alone could probably get them to the point that they were trying to prove. Evaluating a situation can be hard if you are not thinking critically and going off of emotion solely. Critical thinking then, is different from now. I am almost positive that if these two men were living in this world now, they would have done things differently.

2. Explain the importance of building a foundation for critical and creative thinking when evaluating historical events such as the Boston Tea Party.

One of the things you have to do when evaluating a situation such as the historical, Boston Tea Party, we need to remember that times have changed. In the eighteenth century people were not used to things adapting to the “new”. They were resistant to change because they were comfortable with the way things were. One of the things we need to remember is that critical thinking skills have now changed. We now know how to manage our emotions from preventing us from making irrational decisions that have negative outcomes. Building a foundation for critical and creative thinking can be done by simply remembering that the things we read can be bias, remember to keep an open mind and try and put ourselves in their shoes at that time and day.
