SWOT

According to Finnish Company, Nokia is moving towards services-oriented from product-oriented and they are tried to add value into Nokia phones which is media sales and software application ². Based on the case study, we has analyse Nokia phone by using Strengths, Weakness, Opportunity, and Threat which also can be called as SWOT.

Nokia strength is that they work together with operating system such as Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Intel and also Linux. Google, Facebook and Microsoft are doing very well and they are able to provide better solution to Nokia regarding their services³. This is giving them opportunity to improve Nokia online applications called Ovi. Many Ovi applications now are for free. Besides that, Product Life Cycle (PLC) in the telecommunications industry was short and only getting shorter and this is why there is a good opportunity for Nokia to improve in their services.

Weakness of Nokia phone is lack of applications and they are acting very slowly in terms of customers preferences. They are more focusing on following the market trends. Therefore, it is a threat because their competitor such as Apple is providing much more applications.

However, lessons that can a market leader draw from Nokia’s experience is that they needed to use their resources to the fullest. Which mean, they have the power to persuade and corporate with other company and create an excellent product or services because they are the market leader. Besides, they can learn to act fast in terms of any changes or movements in the market or if any new competitors enter the industry.
