Health care organizations handle a vast influx of patient information, new techniques, new laws, and new educational material. Training, education, competence, and evaluations ensure that all patients receive the best care possible, and to ensure that employees and the organization are following all laws and regulations.

Training and education in the health care field provides the patients the best most up-to-date care possible. The introduction of new techniques and procedures to the medical field amplifies the need to train employees for the safety of the patient and the safety of the employee’s. Researchers are working hard every day to find new procedures, cures, and better techniques to treat patients. The education that an employee receives when first entering the medical field becomes out-of date as new information is available. The continuous training and education of employees help to reduce medical errors and liability actions against the health care organization.

Measuring competence in the health care organization is vital to protect the organization and the individuals receiving care. Competence in the health care field is determined on an individual’s knowledge, traits, skills, and abilities in the field of their expertise (Burkhalter, Cooper & Kak, 2001). Key elements such as; understanding procedures, self-control, and actions informs the organization about the competency level of an employee. The competence of an employee produces a desired outcome that show the level of education and training the individual has received before and during employment with the organization. Liability, ethic, risk management, and recertification are a few reasons why health care organizations measure competence (Burkhalter, Cooper & Kak, 2001).
