Sex and Violence in films

Today in America, there is some type of sexual or violent scene in most films. What was shown on films years ago is very different from what people see on films today. The film industry has experienced a major evolution. Evolution is a process of continuous changes from lower, simpler, or worse to a higher, more complex, or better state. The people of America have different views about whether or not the change has a negative or a positive influence on our society. However, filmmakers should stop including excessive violent and sexual scenes that are destructive to the moral fabric of the nation.

Some people believe that there is absolutely nothing wrong with violent and sexual scenes in films. According to the author of the article Violence and Sex in Films, “There are some who claim that violence is a dramatist’s tool, that a dramatist needs screen violence in order to make a point and achieve a catharsis of the story. Others raise the freedom of speech issue, claiming the government should not be dictating or influencing what we see on our television screens”

(Graves 1). However, people have to remember that there are children who are easily influenced by what is on television.

Children’s greatest exposure to violence and sex comes from television. TV shows, movies edited for television, and video games expose young children to a level of violence unimaginable just a few years ago. The American Psychological Association says the average child watches eight thousand televised murders and one hundred thousand acts of violence before finishing elementary school (Anderson 14). That number more than doubles by the time he or she reaches age eighteen. Children are the future of this country and if people care about their future they should watch what they exposed children who don’t know how to discriminate between reality and fantasy.
