Discrimination against international student

America is considered as land of opportunity and it’s a dream come true for a student like me to study in this country. Better education can give a blissful future in the opportunity oriented country like America. There are thousands of students from all over the world heading here to get better education. There is a tough competition among students in Asian countries to come aboard for better education. Parents save every single penny for this purpose. Even though, the education system is very advance and highly tech in America as compare to home country, there is a huge discrimination between national and international student considering tuition and job selection process. As a result, students have to think twice when applying aboard.

According to NAFSA’s census of 2008-2009, U.S received $17.8 billion in 2008 which is 40 to 50 percent of the global market for education service. It is estimated $12,316,000,000 from the tuitions and fees, $11,855,000,000 from living expenses was contributed by international students to U.S. economy. In addition $434,000,000 is retrieved from the dependent’s living expenses. These dollars numbers are only the contribution from the international students and their families. NAFSA has also showed $434,000,000 of contribution made by international students’ dependents to U.S. economy. The overall contribution could be taken as the benefit for U.S economy from the enrollment of international students.

Although American government is making huge amount from international students, there is huge discrimination between state students and out of state students. One of the major discrimination is the tuition fees are really high. They have to pay nearly fifty percent of higher tuition as compared to national students. International students are made compulsory to get health insurance to get enrolled in the college. The insurance is expensive. Students have to pay no less than $500 per...
