The last five decades have shaped this country to social distrust in our neighborhoods. For a country made up of so many ethnicities from its beginning, it sure doesn’t show its democracy for all within its borders. The United States throughout its almost two and half century reign has contradicted it own Constitution. We only discuss the fifties through two thousand nine to get the concept of this opinion. Will the United States be able to come together within society and mend its seams of distrusting society?

Post-War Prospering Fifties

With the close of World War II, women and minorities that helped take up jobs during the war were left going back to being housewives and giving up jobs to returning servicemen. WWI and WWII left much of the U.S. in a depression state and stunted growth, but while adjusting to peacetime economy, Americans entered a prosperous time in the fifties and a slow beginning of civil rights issues.

The fifties became known as the Baby Boomer Generation. With any boom or increase in population comes, more consumer goods, suburban homes, automobiles, roads, and services that include paving roads, power, water, and sewer systems. Things couldn’t be better for American living the American dream of owning a home, having a big flashy car and teenagers only worrying about their first kiss and keeping their grades up.

Let’s not forget though that with the prosperity of whites brought discrimination to an all time high towards minorities including Latinos, African Americans, and even Asians. The fifties began a trend of pollution and discriminatory practices still seen in today’s society.
