1.Technological as this has an impact on what will be a success in the future with regards to where the technoligcal age is going.

2. Social as the age of people will depend on the type of purchase they make as older people may not be able to use the MP3 format.

3. Economical less people buying the ‘audiophille’ type products that are of better quality due to recession it is not seen as something that is needed and may sacrifice sound for saving money

b. Opportunities and threarts facing Hifi

Opportunities

As the sector moves away from the CD marketsthose companies which still have not moved away from Vinyls may well not be impacted as vinyls are also seen as the way forward. Therefore The opportunities for these companies would maybe be to shift some of their change to Home theatre systems and systems that are compatible with MP3 players such as IPOD who are all ready established in that market

Threats

barriers in the MP3 market are more than likely going to be very high due to only 2 or 3 key players being involved with MP3 downloads these being companies such as Itunes and Amazon and online music shops such as Play.com. Other threats may well arise in terms of com[anies such as Itunes releasing what was described in the book as MP3’S that were off a very high quality and therefore companies such as Linn which are trying to come into the higher quality sector possibly being pushed out.

C. Do they have the right strengths tot ake advanatage of the opportunities?

Yes. Most of the companies tlaked abotu all ready have high vinyl sells (Naim) therefore this not being a problem, some are all ready competitive in the Home cinema market (Meridian) they also have the reputation to go into a broader market such as High quality osund systems for Ipods and Linn are allready in the high quality downlod tracks. Therefore all of the 3 have aspects of key markets to move on with it is how they use these that will make them successful moving...
